The Buffalo Bills enter yet another crucial offseason in which they have the ability to put together a roster that can get them “over the hump” and make a Super Bowl run.

The Bills overhauled their roster last offseason, and many thought a rebuild was beginning. But they outplayed expectations and were one win away from a Super Bowl appearance.

This offseason, the Bills focused on securing their core rather than revamping it. They went out and extended their home-grown products ahead of free agency. Wide receiver Khalil Shakir, defensive end Greg Rousseau, and linebacker Terrel Bernard were all rewarded with raises and they’ll be in Buffalo for the foreseeable future. With the majority of the core pieces in place for the future, general manager Brandon Beane is left to fill in the gaps of the roster, starting with free agency.

Below is a tracker of each free agent that the Bills have agreed to terms with:

WR Josh Palmer

The Bills and wide receiver Josh Palmer reached an agreement on a three-year, $36 million deal on Day 1 of FA. Palmer is just 25 years old and has proven he can get the job done when called upon. He immediately fills a need for the Bills in the wide receiver room given the departure of Mack Hollins and likely departure of Amari Cooper.

Palmer may not be a speedster but he has displayed consistent route running and reliable hands so far in his career with the LA Chargers. He has had at least 500 receiving yards in each of the last three years, with his best showing coming in 2022 (769 yards).

He provides a safe, solid option for Josh Allen, and who knows, maybe playing with an MVP can elevate your game.

DL Michael Hoecht

The Bills and defensive lineman Michael Hoecht reached an agreement on a three-year deal worth up to $24M.

Like Palmer, Hoecht is a young player (24) with more room to grow. Hoecht can play all over the defensive line and has even played some linebacker when called upon by the LA Rams.

He is an athletic freak, scoring a 9.93 relative athletic score (out of 10), and can be disruptive both inside and out. A former undrafted free agent, he now finds himself on a contender with a solid three-year deal. Over the last three years he has a combined 13.5 sacks.

DE Joey Bosa

The Bills came out of nowhere to sign Joey Bosa in the middle of the night on Tuesday. He likely becomes a Von Miller replacement on the edge and rushing on passing downs. Like Miller, Bosa has seen his share of injuries.

A one-year deal worth a reported $12.6M is a low-risk investment from Beane and if he can stay on the field it should be well worth it.

Bosa has an impressive 72 sacks to go with five Pro Bowls over his nine seasons. But over the last few seasons his numbers have dipped due to health. In the last three years he has played in a combined 28 regular season games and has recorded a combined 14 sacks.

Beane and the Bills are hoping to get the bounce-back year that Bosa needs to revitalize his career.

DT Larry Ogunjobi

It was reported on Wednesday morning that the Bills and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi agreed to a one-year deal worth $8.3 million, with $8M guaranteed, and also includes incentives that could earn him up to $10M.

Ogunjobi has tons of experience in the NFL. He has spent his entire eight-year career in the AFC North, playing with the Browns, Bengals, and Steelers, and he joins the Bills having started 107 of his last 110 games at defensive tackle.

Ogunjobi is known for his size, standing at 6-3, 305 pounds. He’s accumulated 27.5 sacks and 361 combined tackles in his career. He should slide into the middle of the Bills defense next to Ed Oliver nicely.

Ogunjobi was also the Steelers’ nominee for the 2024 Walter Payton Man of the Year.

S Darrick Forrest

The Bills added quality depth to their secondary by agreeing to terms in a one-year deal with safety Darrick Forrest.

Forrest comes over from the Washington Commanders where he just completed his rookie contract. A fifth-round pick in 2021, Forrest has played in 40 games over his four years while starting in 17 of them. After having his best year in 2022, he has been plagued with injuries over the past couple campaigns.

Like Bosa, Forrest comes to the Bills looking to get his health and his career back on track. He totaled four interceptions in 2022 while defending nine passes and recovering a fumble.

Bills have re-signed:

  • S Damar Hamlin
  • RB Ty Johnson
  • RB Darrynton Evans
  • FB Reggie Gilliam
