Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Bills legend Kyle Williams take to the golf course for a celebrity tournament
Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Lake Tahoe is playing host to an incredible list of pro athletes, actors and celebrities this week for the American Century Championship. The tournament will be televised Friday, July 8 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. ET on the Golf Channel, and Saturday and Sunday from 2:30 to 6:00 p.m. ET on NBC Sports.
Among those invited to play in the tournament is Buffalo Bills QB1, Josh Allen. He will compete against current NFL stars like Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, as well as NFL legends such as Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith and Steve Young, and celebrities such as Justin Timberlake and Nick Jonas. Joining Allen in competing in the tournament is Bills legend, defensive tackle Kyle Williams. There are also high-profile players competing from the other major sports, as well. In total, there are over 80 individuals competing.
Josh Allen isn’t a stranger to the links, having just competed in ‘The Match’ in June with Tom Brady, Mahomes and Rodgers. Brady and Rodgers won the match on that day, but that didn’t stop Allen from continuing to play the game of golf. He has to pass some time before training camp begins on July 24, and if he wants to showcase his ability on the golf course in the meantime, then Bills fans are all for it. I mean, look at this drive from Wednesday which traveled 342 yards at 174 mph:
Allen will have a 10 handicap for the tournament, while Kyle Williams will play with 0 handicap. Williams has a great golf game and has actually inched close to winning the American Century Championship in the past. In 2021, he finished 10th overall as he found himself just two shots off the lead after the first day. And in 2020, Williams came even closer to victory, as he finished second overall behind former tennis pro Mardy Fish. Williams was in the lead after the first day but a strong push by Fish butted him off the top of the leaderboard in the end.
Bills fans should be in for quality entertainment. On one hand, you have a six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle who appeared in 183 games for the Bills (the most in franchise history by a defensive tackle), and on the other hand you have the franchise quarterback hitting 340-yard bombs off the tee. I know it’s the offseason, but there should be plenty for Bills Mafia to cheer for this weekend.
