When the Buffalo Bills play the New York Jets in Week 1, it will feature two marquee quarterbacks. Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers have played each other twice in their careers and the quarterback play in those matchups has been mediocre at best.

Here’s a quick glance at both Allen-Rodgers matchups:

Allen vs Rodgers Meeting #1: 9/30/18
Outcome: Packers 22 Bills 0

In Josh Allen’s 2018 rookie season, the 1-3 Bills traveled to Green Bay to play the 2-1-1 Packers.  Allen was making the third start of his career and saying he was overmatched would be an understatement.  The young quarterback would have a quarterback rating of 36.3 that day, completing 49% of his passes and throwing two interceptions along with 151 yards.

In the 22-0 thumping of the Bills; Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers would complete 55% of his passes and throw for 298 yards with one touchdown pass and one interception.

Cmp% Pass Yds Pass TD INT
Josh Allen 48.5% 151 0 2 Aaron Rodgers 76.9% 298 1 1

Allen vs Rodgers Meeting #2: 10/30/22
Outcome: Bills 27 Packers 17

The second meeting between Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers was much different than the first.  The Buffalo Bills, fresh off a bye week, were 5-1 and had been dominant most of the season.  The Packers were 3-4 and were in the middle of a disappointing last season for Rodgers in Green Bay.

The Bills offense controlled the first half, scoring three touchdowns and a field goal in their five first half drives.  However, in the second half, Josh Allen would throw two interceptions and the Bills would only score three points.

Although the Packers were never really in the game, the Bills second half woes could very well have spelled doom for Buffalo.

Aaron Rodgers would lead the Packers on an 8-play, 95-yard touchdown drive early in the 4thquarter, pulling the Packers within 17 points.  A second 9-play fourth quarter drive would end in a missed field goal with under two minutes remaining, cementing the Packers loss.

Cmp % Pass Yds Pass TD INT
Josh Allen 52% 218 2 2
Aaron Rodgers 63.3% 203 2 1

The Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen rivalry should take off now that Rodgers is a divisional foe.  The opening weekend Monday Night matchup between the Bills and Jets has been heavily anticipated by not only Bills and Jets fans, but the NFL world as a whole.

The mediocre quarterback play in the two head-to-head matchups will surely dissipate in coming games as both teams are stocked with talent on each side of the football.
