The Buffalo Bills announced on Monday that they have re-signed defensive end Shaq Lawson, inking him to a one-year deal.
Following Von Miller’s ACL injury Lawson filled in as the starting defensive end across from Greg Rousseau. He started the Bills’ final six games of the regular season and both their playoff games.
With Miller’s return date very much in question, the Lawson signing adds much needed EDGE depth for the Bills, who’ll return starter Gregory Rousseau, as well as rotational rushers AJ Epenesa and Boogie Basham.
Shaq Lawson was fourth on the Bills in sacks in 2022 with 3.5 and will presumably be third on the team’s EDGE rushing depth chart behind a healthy Miller and Rousseau. If Miller can’t go to start the season, Lawson may find himself in the DE2 role once again.
A seven-year veteran out of Clemson, Lawson was drafted by the Bills with the 19th overall pick in 2016. He recorded 16.5 sacks for the Bills from 2016-2019. He then went on to have short stints with the Dolphins and Jets before returning to the Bills in 2022 on a one-year deal.
His new one-year deal marks the third time he has signed a contract with the Bills. It’s safe to say he feels at home in Buffalo.
