The Buffalo Bills took on the New York Jets Sunday, defeating them 30-10 at MetLife Stadium. The Bills offense was dominant on the ground all game, fishing with 224 total rushing yards. On the other side of the ball, Buffalo’s defense had a huge bounce back game, holding the Jets to 10 points and only 154 total yards. The Bills now move to 2-0 on the young season and sit atop the AFC East. Buffalo now looks at a quick turn around, as they take on the Miami Dolphins Thursday night.

The Good

James Cook

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook had himself a day against an opposing divisional rival. Cook finished the game with 21 total carries for 132 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Cook led the Bills opening-drive touchdown. 12 plays that went 81 yards, capped off by a Cook one-yard rushing touchdown. In the second quarter, Cook broke open the Bills lead with a 44-yard rushing touchdown. Cook was the juice for this Bills offense.

Defense

The Buffalo Bills defense had a rough outing in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens, yet this week the Bills defense held their own. Buffalo shut out Jets quarterback Justin Fields, holding him to only 27 yards passing, hitting on just three of his 11 throws. The Bills defensive front was able to put pressure on Fields all game long and came up with multiple sacks.

The secondary, led by Tre’Davious White’s return, played very well in coverage and in run support.

Joey Bosa was a bright spot, forcing a Fields fumble which was recovered by AJ Epenesa. Bosa finished the game with two total tackles along with a sack and a tackle for loss.

Matt Prater

Bills kicker Matt Prater has been on a roll since joining the Bills in early September. Prater kicked the Bills’ game-winning field goal to defeat the Ravens, and then hit on all three of his field goal attempts in Week 2.

The Bad

Passing attack

While the Bills passing attack was not bad, it did not win the game for Buffalo. Allen finished with 148 yards passing and zero passing touchdowns. The ball was spread around to eight different receivers on the offense, yet none of them got into the end zone. The Bills offense did enough to win the game on the ground, leaving the Bills air attack offense for another week.

Injuries

In the first quarter of the game, Josh Allen suffered a bloody nose, possibly broken, on a designed quarterback run. Allen excited the game to be evaluated by the medical staff, as backup Mitchell Trubkisy filled in. Allen later returned at the start of the second quarter to play the rest of the game with gauze in his nose to stop the bleeding. Allen seemed to be fine post-game, stating, “We can breathe, so it’s good.”

Other injuries that seem to be undisclosed or minor: Taylor Rapp was seen in the medical tent in the third quarter, yet no further details on what happened to him; Cam Lewis walked off under his own power with trainers later in the game, in the fourth quarter, and seemed to be limping on his right ankle.
