The Bills named their team captains on Sunday, September 4
The Bills will have nine team captains this year, the most they’ve had under head coach Sean McDermott.
Offensive captains: Josh Allen (fourth consecutive year); Stefon Diggs (second consecutive year); Mitch Morse (first-time captain).
Josh Allen had one of the best seasons of his career in 2021 and is looking forward to running it back with his number one receiver Stefon Diggs. Diggs has had 230 catches, 2,760 yards and has scored 18 touchdowns in 33 games with Josh Allen in his career. Mitch Morse joins them as a first-time captain in Buffalo, and deservedly so.
Defensive captains: Tremaine Edmunds (fourth consecutive year); Jordan Poyer (third consecutive year); Micah Hyde (second consecutive year); Von Miller (first-time captain).
Von Miller earns himself a captain label in his first season with the Bills. He’s already taken young Bills under his wing and even invited the Bills’ defensive ends to his pass rushing academy. Edmunds, Poyer and Hyde return as captains, holding down the middle and back end of the Bills top-rated defense.
Special teams captains: Taiwan Jones and Tyler Matakevich are both returning to serve in their second year as Bills captains. The two have been among the most productive special teams players in the NFL.
