Bills rookies report to camp: what to expect from each 2024 draft pick

The Buffalo Bills rookies report to training camp today, Tuesday, July 16.

Here is a look at the 2024 Bills draft picks and their likelihood of making the 53-man roster.

Keon Coleman, Wide Receiver, Florida State
Drafted: 2^nd round (33^rd overall)
Projected: WR1
Analysis: The Bills traded down to get their new “household name” at wide receiver and if he lives up to the hype, Bills Mafia will quickly forget the likes of Gabe Davis and Stefon Diggs.

Cole Bishop, Safety, Utah
Drafted: 2^nd round (60^th overall)
Projected: Safety 3
Analysis: With the duo of Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer a thing of the past, the Bills looked to get younger and cheaper at the safety position. Bishop may turn heads this preseason and overtake Mike Edwards or Taylor Rapp at a starting safety role to start the season or at some point during the regular season.

DeWayne Carter, Defensive Tackle, Duke
Drafted: 3^rd round (95^th overall)
Projected: DL5
Analysis: DeWayne Carter should have plenty of opportunity to build his craft behind some battle-tested veterans. Daquan Jones and Ed Oliver will start at defensive tackle for the Bills and the signing of veterans Austin Johnson and Deshawn Williams will allow for DeWayne Carter to gel. Unless Carter proves to be a superstar in the preseason, look for him to be eased into the Bills defensive schemes and learn from one of the best defensive lines in the NFL when healthy.

Ray Davis, Running Back, Kentucky
Drafted: 4^th round (128^th overall)
Projected: RB3
Analysis: Look for Ray Davis to be a big part of the Bills offense early. The 5-8, 211-pound running back has excellent hands and rushed for 900+ yards with three different college teams—showing his ability to adjust to offensive schemes.

Sedrick Van Pran-Granger, Interior Offensive Line, Georgia
Drafted: 5^th round (151^st overall)
Projected: Center2, IOL4
Analysis:  Connor McGovern will move to the center position after it was vacated by Mitch Morse this offseason. David Edwards will fill the void at left guard. This will allow Sedrick Van Pran-Granger the opportunity to learn an Aaron Kromer-led Bills offensive line that allowed the least amount of quarterback sacks in 2023. 

Edefuan Ulofoshio, Linebacker, Washington
Drated: 5^th round (160^th overall)
Projected: LB6
Analysis: In the recent past, the Bills have been reluctant to give rookie linebackers meaningful defensive snaps and if Matt Milano and Terrel Bernard stay healthy this season, Edefuan Ulofoshio will likely be relegated to special teams. 

There is a chance that if veteran Deion Jones makes a preseason push, Ulofoshio will spend the season on the practice squad.

Javon Solomon, Defensive End, Troy
Drafted: 5^th round (168^th overall)
Projected: EDGE5
Analysis: Javon Solomon will be on the Bills 53-man roster. The former wrestler led the FBS in sacks in 2023 and the depth after Greg Rousseau, Von Miller and AJ Epenesa is suspect. 

Tylan Grable, Offensive Line, Central Florida
Drafted: 6^th round (204^th overall)
Projected: Practice Squad
Analysis:  It will be an uphill battle for Tylan Grable to make the Bills 53-man roster. Bills General Manager, Brandon Beane has shown in the past that he likes to develop offensive line talent and flip it for late-round draft picks. This is a possibility for Tylan Grable, who was drafted as a tackle and would have to beat out the likes of Ryan Van Demark and La’El Collins to make the squad. It is also possible that one of the before mentioned veterans is traded allowing for a roster spot for Grable.

Daequan Hardy, Cornerback, Penn State
Drafted: 6^th round (219^th overall)
Projected: CB6
Analysis: Unless the Bills make another move at cornerback this offseason, Daequan Hardy will battle Ja’Marcus Ingram for the CB5 spot. Hardy’s chance for making the 53-man squad is excellent considering the Bills cornerback depth and his ability to return kicks.

Travis Clayton, Offensive Line, United Kingdom
Drafted: 7^th round (221^st overall)
Projected: Practice Squad
Analysis: Travis Clayton is a part of the International Player Pathway Program. Clayton has very little American Football experience and will likely be sent to the Bills designated international practice squad spot.
