A surprising move and a splash in free agency
The Bills and eight-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Von Miller came to terms on a six-year, $120 million deal the team announced on Wednesday.
The move came as a surprise to not just Bills fans, but fans throughout the football world. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bills were quietly working on landing Miller all day on Wednesday.
The deal is massive for a 33-year old, especially one that has been hampered by injury in recent seasons. But, as NFL fans saw, the three-time first-team All-Pro pass rusher had an excellent performance for the LA Rams in their Super Bowl run, and has plenty left in the tank. That could be just what GM Brandon Beane and the Bills saw.
Fresh off of the Super Bowl win with the Rams, where he recorded two sacks and a pass defensed, Miller now changes conferences in hopes of making another Super Bowl run with one of the league’s top contenders.
Miller is a two-time Super Bowl champion and received the Super Bowl MVP for the Denver Broncos after Super Bowl 50. He has 115.5 sacks in his 11-year career, including seven seasons with double-digit sack totals.
He brings a dominant presence on the edge, which the Bills have been seeking for a long time.
The Bills were debatably a coin flip away from hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in 2021, and a veteran, proven pass rusher like Miller can help them get over that final hump. If that’s the case, this could go down as the biggest free-agent signing in Bills history.
