The Buffalo Bills defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Buffalo, 28-21, in a great offensive and defensive performance from the Bills.

The Bills defense had a statement game against the Chiefs offense, shutting down Patrick Mahomes. The Bills offense, led by Josh Allen, had a great day, consistently making plays against the Chiefs defense.

Below is the good and bad from Buffalo’s Week 9 win:

The good

Josh Allen

The Buffalo Bills’ offensive success on Sunday is in large part due to Josh Allen and the passing attack. Allen had one of his most accurate nights, completing 23 of his 26 pass attempts for 273 total yards and a passing touchdown. Allen was able to find time in the pocket and was on point with his throws downfield. He found his tight ends continuously throughout the game, completing 149 of his passing yards to tight ends. On the ground, he was able to punch the ball into the end zone twice, while having six carries for 19 yards.

Allen looked poised and calm against Kansas City. The play calls from Joe Brady and the execution on offense made the Bills move the ball smoothly downfield.

James Cook

Bills running back James Cook had another great week. Cook finished the game with 27 carries for 114 yards, good for 4.2 yards on average. The Bills offensive line played physical against the Kansas City defensive line, creating holes for Cook to rush through. Cook now has five 100-yard rushing games on the season.

Dalton Kincaid

Tight end Dalton Kincaid was a friendly target for Allen on Sunday. Kincaid caught six of six targets for 101 receiving yards, leading the team, and scored a touchdown. Kincaid made his presence felt against the Chiefs linebackers and secondary, finding weak spots against zone and also beating man coverage.

Cole Bishop

Bills second-year safety Cole Bishop had a breakout game against the Chiefs. Bishop came up with crucial stops when the Bills needed it most, putting immense pressure on the Chiefs passing attack. He led the team in total tackles with seven, as well as finishing with a tackle for loss, and four passes defended. He seems to feel more comfortable at the safety position with a veteran like Jordan Poyer alongside him, a big boost in his play along with his confidence in making plays.

Greg Rousseau

Bills defensive end Greg Rousseau continues to improve throughout the season. Rousseau had a strong game on Sunday against Kansas City, finishing with six total tackles, a half sack, and four quarterback hits. Rousseau continues to look great coming off the edge opposite of veteran rusher Joey Bosa.

Joey Bosa

Bosa, now 30, started the season with a lesser snap count but as the season continued, his use has increased, and his presence is being felt. Bosa finished with three total tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, and five quarterback hits. The Bills will need the continued contributions from Bosa as the season gets closer to the end.

Maxwell Hairston

Bills rookie cornerback Maxwell Hairston sealed the game for Buffalo and also sealed his first career interception. Hairston played a great game against Kansas City and their receivers, especially matched up against Xavier Worthy. Hairston seems to finally have gotten up to NFL game speed coming off his knee injury. He finished with one pass defended and one interception off Patrick Mahomes.

Hairston had himself a game. The Bills coaching staff and fans hope to see the continued play out of the rookie in high hopes that they have found their cornerback duo of the future alongside Chrisitan Benford.

The bad

Michael Hoecht Injury

Michael Hoecht just got back from suspension a couple weeks back, and against Kansas City, he tore his achillies. Hoecht was playing strong football in his few weeks back with Buffalo. In just two games played, Hoecht had two tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble. Hoecht is a huge loss for the Bills. It’s an unfortunate end to what could have been a great season for him.

Matt Prater Miss

What could have been a game-ending field goal by late in the fourth quarter from Matt Prater ending up being a doink off the right post. Buffalo’s defense held their own and sealed the game, yet the miss field goal made fans sweat a bit too much, especially playing the Chiefs.
