The Buffalo Bills went into Miami to take on the Dolphins in Week 10, losing 30-13 in a lackluster performance from both the offense and defense.

The Bills failed to get any points on the board for the entirety of the first half and turned the ball over three times. The Bills defense was not physical enough to hold the Dolphins offense, finishing with 370 total yards. Buffalo is now 6-3 on the season.

The good

Cam Lewis

Cam Lewis had a good game. With both cornerbacks Christian Benford and Taron Johnson out, he played physical and fast. Lewis has been with Buffalo since 2019 and has filled different roles smoothly when he’s been inserted. He finished the game with seven total tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass defended.

Mitch Wishnowsky

Bills punter Mitch Wishnowsky was good for Buffalo on Sunday. Wishnowsky punted the ball four times against Miami, totaling 217 yards, averaging 54.3 yards per punt, and pinning the Dolphins inside the 20-yard line twice.

The bad

Offense

The Bills offense struggled immensely in the first half. Allen and the offense could not get anything going through the air, and James Cook struggled on the ground.

Buffalo’s second-half offense was not any better, finishing with nothing in the third quarter, but finally finding the endzone in the fourth. The offense was unable to move with ease as the run-after-catch was not there for the Bills. Miami’s linebacker’s and secondary shut down anything underneath, or over the top.

Wide receivers

The Bills’ receivers struggled to gain any separation against Miami’s secondary. Allen was forced to buy time out of the pocket on multiple plays, ultimately finding nothing on a majority of those plays. Allen loves to spread the ball around, but they have been struggling without a true wide receiver one.

Khalil Shakir led the Bills receiver room with seven receptions for 58 yards. Following him is Keon Coleman who was targeted eight times by Allen, only coming down with three receptions for 46 yards. The Bills receivers need to step up in a hurry if they want to be successful.

Defense

The Bills defense struggled to hold Miami’s speedy offense, led by Devon Achane and Jaylen Waddle. Achane finished with 225 total yards and two touchdowns, while Waddle finished with five receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown.

Buffalo’s defense, while banged up, needs to play better against a team they know they can beat, and against a quarterback they can shut down. The missed tackles were crucial for Miami’s success on offense, and a huge reason the Bills allowed 30 points.

Turnovers

Both Allen and Cook fumbled on what should have been long first-down runs, and Allen threw an interception in the red zone. The turnovers were complete momentum-changers, forcing the defense to rush back onto the field after already allowing points… not a recipe for success. Buffalo must take care of the ball better as the season moves forward.

AFC East

The Buffalo Bills are still sitting second in the AFC East division, as the New England Patriots have an 8-2 record following their Week 10 victory over the Buccaneers. The Bills need to start compiling wins and fast if they want to compete with the Patriots for the number one spot. The Bills have held firm of first place in the AFC East for the past five years, but the Patriots are looking to put an end to that.
