The Buffalo Bills took on the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on Monday night and walked out with a win, 23-20. It was a tough back-and-forth battle between the two teams with penalty flags flying left and right, yet the Bills ultimately won the game with a game-sealing interception.
QB Josh Allen
Josh Allen had himself a great night considering the lack of production at the receiver position. Allen went 19/25 for 215 passing yards and two passing touchdowns. Allen was making things happen with his legs by escaping the pocket to buy himself time. Allen finished his night with a 127.9 RTG to opposing quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ 99.0 RTG.
On the ground Allen had nine carries for 18 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.
RB Ray Davis
Bills rookie running back Ray Davis out of Kentucky had himself a great night both running and catching the football. The Bills selected Ray Davis in the fourth round out of Kentucky. With James Cook missing Monday night’s game the rookie had a chance to shine, and that he did.
Davis finished the night with 20 carries going for 97 rushing yards. Through the air Davis finished with three receptions for 55 receiving yards which led the team. Davis accounted for 152 total yards Monday night.
CB Taron Johnson
Taron Johnson had his first game back this week and he showed out. Johnson finished the night with eight total tackles, one pass defended, and an interception which sealed the game for Buffalo. Johnson was a huge contributing factor in Monday night’s win over the Jets.
DE A.J. Epenesa
A.J. Epenesa had himself a great game Monday night. Epenesa finished the night with four total tackles, three solo tackles, two sacks, and one tackle for loss. Epenesa got back to his usual self this week and Bills fans are looking for more performances like he had this week.
K Tyler Bass
Tyler Bass had himself yet another rough game Monday night. Bass went one-for-two on field goal attempts and two-for-three on extra point attempts. Bass has been more concerning than ever this season and Bills fans are not happy with the production they are getting from him.
Hail Mary defense
The Bills scored right before halftime to lead 20-10. Yet, the Jets still had a few seconds left on the clock and Aaron Rodgers and the Jets offense took a chance. Rodgers threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to Allen Lazard in heavy traffic. Buffalo’s secondary did not match up to Lazard’s reach and he came down with a touchdown to make the score 20-17 heading into the second half.
Penalties
The Bills and Jets game ended in 22 total penalties for 204 yards. Both the Bills and Jets each accepted 11 penalties from their opponents. The officiating crew was questionable and many watching were concerned in the number of penalties called. The Bills must clean up the penalties as they head into Week 7 to take on the Tennessee Titans in Buffalo.
