Bills, WR Stefon Diggs agree to 4-year, $104M extension

The Buffalo Bills reached an agreement with wide receiver Stefon Diggs on a four-year, $104 million extension as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday morning. The extension includes $70 million in guaranteed money and locks Diggs in with Buffalo for the next six years (through 2027), as he had two years remaining on his existing deal.

In his first two years in Buffalo, Diggs has recorded 230 catches for 2,760 yards and 18 touchdowns.

The Diggs deal comes after an onslaught of WR deals this offseason, as Tyreek Hill received $72.2M guaranteed from the Dolphins and Davante Adams received $65M guaranteed from the Raiders. The time was now to make a move on securing Diggs’ services and Bills GM Brandon Beane made it happen. Diggs’ deal makes him the fourth-highest paid WR in the game today based on average per year, behind Hill ($30M), Adams ($28.25M) and DeAndre Hopkins ($27.25M).

Diggs was the nineteenth wide receiver taken in the 2015 NFL Draft, as he was picked in the fifth round (pick 146) by the Minnesota Vikings. This was after Diggs dealt with several injuries while playing in college at Maryland, including a broken fibula and a lacerated kidney. He spent the first five years of his career with Minnesota before wanting out due to being underutilized in the offense. After just 94 targets in 2019 with the Vikings, in his first season with Buffalo in 2020, Diggs was targeted 166 times and ended up leading the league in both receptions (127) and receiving yards (1,535) that season.

Sources also reported that both the Bills and Diggs would like him to retire in Buffalo, which is great news for quarterback Josh Allen, who is signed through the 2028 season. With the Allen-Diggs duo being in place for the next six years, they can now flirt with the Bills all-time record for QB to WR touchdowns which is currently held by Jim Kelly and Andre Reed (67). Oh, and they can chase Super Bowl rings together, too.
