The Bills wide receiving corps had a few bright spots throughout the year but mainly lacked in production. Stefon Diggs had an excellent season but he needs help across the field from him and more playcalls to get him the ball. Gabe Davis wasn’t consistent in his second season as the No. 2 wide receiver and couldn’t make the most of his targets. Isaiah McKenzie disappointed in the slot. Khalil Shakir has a bright future and should continue to develop.
Stefon Diggs
Games Played: 16
PFF Grade: 89.1
PFF Rank: 5th of 121
Grade: A
Analysis: Stefon Diggs had another All-Pro season and has proved to the league that he is a top 5 receiver with Josh Allen throwing it to him. Diggs is one of the best route runners and it shows when he’s out on the field and given the chance to succeed. Hopefully Ken Dorsey is somewhere scheming more ways to get 14 the ball.
Gabe Davis
Games Played: 15
PFF Grade: 66.4
PFF Rank: 67th of 121
Grade: C
Analysis: Gabe Davis regressed from last year as he was tied for the league lead in drops in 2022. He was not executing the way many saw him his first few seasons. His inconsistency as a pass catcher hurt the Bills at times, but his deep threat ability shined through at times, too. Allen and the offense will be looking for more reliability at WR 2 next year, whether that’s from Davis or someone else.
Isaiah McKenzie
Games Played: 15
PFF Grade: 66.0
PFF Rank: 68th of 121
Grade: C-
Analysis: Isaiah McKenzie was the starting slot receiver heading into the 2022 season for the Bills and things didn’t pan out for him and what the team envisioned. McKenzie, like Gabe Davis, had trouble catching the ball consistently and couldn’t produce like the team thought he would. According to Spotrac, McKenzie is owed $1.75M in 2023. Cutting McKenzie this offseason would mean the Bills would eat $300k in dead cap.
Khalil Shakir
Games Played: 14
PFF Grade: 65.6
PFF Rank: 74th of 121
Grade: B-
Analysis: Khalil Shakir in his rookie season did what he could with the playing time given. In limited targets and snaps, he showcased his ability to make contested catches and also make some moves after the catch. Shakir is young and has more to learn to earn trust from the coaching staff. With his first season now under his belt, he should only improve as time goes on. And, working out with Bills legend Eric Moulds in the offseason is a good start.
