The Buffalo Bills announced the teamβs captains Wednesday, four days before their season opener versus the Cardinals. Instead of going with eight captains as they have in the past, the Bills have decided to go with only twoβJosh Allen and Terrel Bernard.
Allen has been named a team captain for the sixth straight season.Β His leadership on and off the field has been apparent throughout his career as Allen has become one of the faces of the NFL.
Terrel Bernard has earned a βCβ for the first time in his career this season.Β In only his second season in 2023, and his first as a starter, Bernard recorded three interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and 6.5 sacks.
The announcement of only two captains comes on the heels of a roster refresh which saw the difficult departures of former captains Mitch Morse, Jordan Poyer, Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis, and Tre White.
In Sean McDermott’s press conference Wednesday he said having two captains is “what the team needed right now”, and he also mentioned that the team will have a “leadership council” consisting of ten players who will help support Allen and Bernard.
