Stefon and Trevon Diggs talk about potentially being teammates down the road
In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, cornerback Trevon Diggs was quoted as saying, “Who knows? I feel like it could happen eventually,” when asked about teaming up with his older brother Stefon one day.
Trevon led the league in interceptions in his Pro Bowl season in 2021 with 11. He also had 43 solo tackles and 21 passes defensed last year. After two years in the league, he has a total of 110 tackles, 14 interceptions, 185 interception return yards, 35 passes defended, and 2 touchdowns with the Cowboys. Following his 2021 campaign, Trevon was named First Team All-Pro.
On the other hand, Stefon has been great for the Bills ever since being traded from the Vikings in 2020, as he has transitioned from a budding star into a bonafide superstar.
With 127 receptions and 1,535 yards in 2020, Stefon finished as the NFL’s leader in both categories for the season as he was named First Team All-Pro. He was the first in Bills history to lead the NFL in receptions and receiving yards in a single season, and they were both career highs.
He followed that spectacular season up with 103 receptions, 1,225 yards, 10 touchdowns, and averaged 11.9 yards per catch in 2021. Over the past two years, he leads the league in targets with 330.
Obviously, pairing two First Team All-Pro caliber brothers together on the same team would be remarkable, but what would make it special is the relationship that the two have.
The Diggs brothers’ father died when they were young and Stefon, being the oldest son, was forced to grow up quickly and take care of his family. The bond between the brothers became strong and they’ve always had each other’s backs and pushed each other to be better. Stefon and Trevon talked about their close relationship in the recent interview with Sports Illustrated, where they discussed life growing up and their unbreakable bond.
Having both of the Diggs brothers in Buffalo would be huge for them, the Bills team, and Bills fans. There are a handful of teams around the league that have a pair of siblings, and not only is it great off the field but on the field as well. That would be no different for the Diggs brothers, who are both top-tier players at their respective positions.
Stefon knows it’s a long shot to pair him and his younger brother together, telling SI, “Maybe in the next lifetime or something. I want to finish with the Bills, and I’m pretty sure he’s not going anywhere anytime soon.”
The Bills would obviously have to consider the money side of things if they wanted to add a player like Trevon. A trade for a player of Trevon’s caliber, especially on a rookie contract, would most likely mean the Bills would have to offer up a lot of assets. And, signing Trevon as a free agent when his deal is up in 2024 would be pricey.
Currently, the Bills are sitting at just over $4.8 million in cap space, which most definitely would not be enough to pick up Trevon. But, if there’s one thing Bills fans are sure of, it’s that GM Brandon Beane has magic up his sleeve and making a splash move should never be ruled out.
What do you think, Bills Mafia? Is it unrealistic to assume the pairing of the two brothers, or shall we just wait and see?
