Second-year defensive tackle DeWayne Carter is out for the 2025 NFL season after suffering a torn Achilles. Carter was a third-round pick out of Duke and was expected to be an important piece to the Bills’ defensive line rotation along with rookies TJ Sanders and Deon Walker.

Carter, 24 years old, made plenty of explosive plays and earned three starts in his rookie season. He struggled with injuries, however, as he missed six games. But, he was ready to bounce back after an offseason of rest. Last year, Carter totaled five tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, and one pass defended.

While he wasn’t expected to be a starter, the loss of Carter still stings, especially with the suspension of free agent addition Larry Ogunjobi. The Bills have a few options: look to the remaining free agent pool; work with only four defensive tackles on the 53-man roster; look to Jordan Phillips to fill Ogunjobi’s role in the meantime.

Carter looks to rehab and be ready for the 2026 season.
