Davis’ 171 receiving yards in Week 5 was more than his first three games combined
The connection that Josh Allen and Gabe Davis had in the 38-3 win over Pittsburgh on Sunday was amazing. Davis racked up 3 catches for 171 yards and 2 TDs. Davis’ incredible game came after dealing with an ankle injury over the last two weeks which looked to be holding him back from playing to his full potential.
The Allen and Davis connection started early. On the third play of the game, they connected for a 98-yard touchdown which put the Bills ahead early.
Davis wasn’t done there, Allen and Davis connected again in the second quarter for another deep touchdown to go up 17-3, and this one was even more impressive. He corralled the long pass from Allen with one hand and then had the strength to rip the ball away from Minkah Fitzpatrick in the endzone:
Davis’ 171 yards was a career high for him in the regular season, and by a large margin. Allen posted a career-high 424 passing yards as well.
On his 98-yard touchdown, Davis said, “I saw the type of coverage they were playing… I knew it was gonna be a big play… I didn’t know it was going to be 98 yards.”
During Allen’s post-game press conference, he expressed how much trust he has in Davis and the rest of the guys out on the field.
It was great to see Davis bounce back the way that he did. Him returning to form as a downfield threat will only make things easier on the Bills’ offense moving forward.
