Josh Allen plays in “The Match” among NFL’s top QBs
The Match wrapped up yesterday with a clutch, final putt from Aaron Rodgers on the 12th hole at Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas, securing the win for the old timers.
Rodgers and Tom Brady may have gotten the better of Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes, but the young guns didn’t go down without a fight in a battle of the NFL’s best quarterbacks.
Rodgers and Brady started out with an early two-hole lead through the first two holes and then Allen and Mahomes got into a groove. Mahomes was striking the ball really well while Allen was struggling to get much going. With that said he did sink a clutch putt on hole 3 to pull them within one.
Rodgers had a really consistent round while Brady struggled the majority of the round with erratic shots. Rodgers and Mahomes were definitely the standouts of this event as both were playing some terrific golf.
It was all tied up going into the last hole when Allen came an inch from sinking nearly a 100-foot putt for birdie. It would’ve kept their hopes alive, but it stopped just to the right of the hole.
That miss also saved Charles Barkley from having to honor his bet with Mahomes that he would have to jump into the nearby waterfall on the hole – a sight I’m sure many of us would’ve loved to see.
While Allen and Mahomes came up short, this was still a very exciting and entertaining event. Some trash talk was dished out by all players, including one in particular that I liked from Allen regarding Rodgers: “He’s a good golfer, I guess when you skip OTA’s you have all this time to golf.”
Rodgers did get him back though when Allen made a putt to win a hole and Rodgers said “Hey, you finally did something!”
It was all in good fun however, including Allen’s golf ball of Tom Brady’s shirtless combine photo.
Adding these four QBs and their personalities along with the TNT basketball crew with Ernie Johnson and Charles Barkley made for some very entertaining television.
If it was up to me I would make the Pro Bowl a golf tournament with the TNT crew commentating. I think a lot of people would find that more entertaining than the actual Pro Bowl.
The point of this event was to have fun and raise money for a great cause in “Feeding America.” It’s great to see the Bills’ star QB get the exposure and recognition he deserves, playing golf on live television with two future hall of famers and one of the best young QBs in the game. Allen is definitely getting more respect across the country and I don’t think anyone is going to take him for granted anymore. It was a great platform and an exciting event to see the QB of the Buffalo Bills with the best of the best. Allen didn’t perform well on the golf course Wednesday, but that could be because he’s been focused on football.
