The Bills and QB Josh Allen are 16-3 in divisional games since the start of 2020
After starting 0-2 against AFC East opponents this season, the Buffalo Bills pulled off four straight divisional wins, bullheaded their way to their third consecutive division title, and now face their biggest division rival in the Miami Dolphins on Sunday in the Wild Card Round.
The Bills’ divisional dominance over the past three years should come as no surprise. Josh Allen’s transformation to an elite-level quarterback began in 2020 and the Bills have gone 16-3 against the division since that season’s beginning. And, two of the three Bills divisional losses will go down in Buffalo Bills lore as weather anomalies — the “Wind Game” against New England last year and the “Heat Game” at Miami earlier this season.
In the past three seasons, Josh Allen has been nothing short of dominant against the AFC East. In the last 19 games (18 regular season, 1 postseason) against divisional opponents, he’s thrown for 5,065 yards (267 ypg) and has 48 total TDs (42 passing, 6 rushing) to go with 7 interceptions. That’s over 2.5 touchdowns per game.
In contrast, Josh Allen’s first two seasons in the division are much more pedestrian. In his 10 starts against the division in ’18 and ’19, the Bills went 4-6 while Allen averaged 196 yards per game, throwing 14 TDs to 12 INTs.
Will Josh Allen reign over the AFC East for the next 15 years as Tom Brady did before him? It’s too early to tell. The Dolphins’ outlook is the brightest with Tua Tagovailoa and a speedy supporting cast, but the Pats and Jets QB situations are meager at best.
As for now, Josh Allen is the undisputed king of the AFC East. He’ll look to build on his 16-3 record on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST as the No. 2 Bills host the No. 7 Dolphins in the Wild Card Round.
