Don’t look now, but Josh Allen is in 5th place in betting odds for 2023 NFL MVP. He currently trails Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy, Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts.
When it comes to the MVP race this season, Josh Allen has been a bit of a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. On the Jekyll side, Allen leads the league in total touchdowns and total yards. However, his Hyde alter ego shows his team’s 7-6 record and his league leading 17 turnovers.
Per definition, the NFL MVP is given to the player “who is considered the most valuable in the NFL during a regular season.”
The Bills current 7-6 record can partially be blamed on the Bills quarterback, who single-handedly lost them the season opener against the Jets with four turnovers and who’s other turnovers in inopportune times contributed to other losses this season.
With this being said, if Josh Allen leads the Buffalo Bills to a 3-1 record (preferably 4-0 record) over the Buffalo Bills’ next four games—odds are, he won’t be turning the football over, he’ll continue to be producing league-leading-type offensive numbers and the Bills will be in excellent position for a playoff spot. This would showcase the league’s best player at the most clutch time and JA17 would have to be a front-runner for the MVP award.
