Bills rookie TE Dalton Kincaid has turned heads during his first training camp. Drafting Kincaid to the Bills was a key move, as a shallow bench caused concern for the Bills offense last season. As days go by in training camp, the likelihood of Kincaid being a prominent piece of the offense increases. Grab after grab, Kincaid is hitting all the Bills’ marks. It’s almost expected at this point that there will be a Kincaid highlight reel after each practice. His talent and attitude is setting him apart, and Josh Allen agrees. In a press conference Allen said, “He’s smart, he’s instinctive…no moment (right now) is too big for him”.
Kincaid’s one-handed catch during Monday’s practice was easily his most impressive moment yet. Covered by LB Tyrel Dodson, Kincaid seemed unlikely to recover the bullet thrown by Josh Allen. With Dodson in his way entirely, Kincaid somehow stretched his arm out and dove to the ground in perfect time to snag the ball. He quickly stood up and signaled for a first down. These types of sharp, quick grabs are what the Bill’s offense needs, and to see it from a rookie with no hesitation is even more impressive. Bills TE Dawson Knox spoke highly of Kincaid in an interview with Matt Bové saying “He does a great job diagnosing things on the fly and picking up new things that he’s taught very quickly”.
In Utah’s 2022 season, Kincaid led his team in receptions (70), receiving yards (890), and receiving touchdowns (8). His talent is undeniable – but how that skill will measure at a professional sports caliber is always something to be seen. Based on what we’ve seen from Kincaid so far, I think it’s fair to say the Bills got what they were promised with Kincaid. It will be exciting to see how the Bills utilize Kincaid in the upcoming season.
