ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday afternoon that Bills’ All-Pro linebacker Matt Milano will undergo surgery on a torn bicep.
Schefter also reported that Milano, who left Tuesday’s practice early due to his bicep injury, could return to the Bills defense in December at the earliest.
It is presumed that second-year linebacker Dorian Williams will fill the vacated outside linebacker role now, opposite Terrel Bernard. Brandon Beane did a good job building linebacker depth this off-season and now that unit will be tested.
The injury is a disappointing setback for Milano who was returning after a season-ending leg fracture in Week 5 last season. In his Thursday press conference, head coach Sean McDermott was visibly distraught while announcing the surgery, understandably so given how much Milano means to the defense.
