Micah Hyde Charity Softball Game provides hope and love for Buffalo
This past Saturday, Micah Hyde held his annual charity softball game at Sahlen Field in Buffalo. It’s a fantastic event which brings the Buffalo community together as they get to see their favorite players up close and having fun with each other during the offseason. And, all of the ticket proceeds go to charity.
This year, however, it was even more special for the community of Buffalo to be able to come together and unite. After the terrible, senseless tragedy on Friday in which 10 innocent people lost their lives, this softball game brought the community together and those victims were honored.
Micah Hyde announced that a portion of the money raised will go to the families affected by this tragedy. Josh Allen spoke out about it, saying, “We’ll be in the building tomorrow and I’m sure we’ll talk about it, figure out a way to help the situation, help the families out. It’s something that you never think is going to happen in your community and when it does, it hits home. I was sick to my stomach all day yesterday.”
The community of Buffalo truly is unlike any other. “You can go anywhere in this nation and I don’t think you find a better community than Buffalo, and I honestly mean that,” Hyde shared. Everyone was supportive of each other and were looking out for one another at Sahlen Field on Saturday – like one big family.
On the field, it was no surprise to see some of the best Bills shine. Hyde and the defense defeated Allen and the offense 10-7 thanks to home runs from Hyde, Jordan Poyer and others.
However, it was the Bills’ star QB who took home the Home Run Derby title for the second year in a row. Allen has definitely been working on his bat flip game as well, as you can see with this derby-clinching HR:
As Allen was giving his trophy acceptance speech, he delivered a line that is going to reverberate with Bills fans until the season starts, saying, “This (trophy) is a placeholder until we win in February.” I think everyone in the stadium got chills from that remark.
It was a day full of grief, mourning and heavy hearts, but also a day filled with love and hope. A great day of baseball and fun for a great cause. The way this community rallies around each other and this team is truly special to see. This city loves this team and this team loves this city. Special things are brewing in Buffalo.
