Overview

Alfred Collins is a fifth-year defensive tackle that was a highly touted prospect coming out of high school, ranked 52nd nationally by ESPN. He committed to Texas and played in at least 10 games all of the five seasons he was there. He’s a big man in the middle that will be a handful for the opposition.

In 63 career games as a Longhorn, Collins finished with 142 tackles, 18 TFLs, and 7.5 sacks. This past season was arguably his best as he finished with 55 tackles, 5.5 TFLs, and 1 sack in 16 games. He also added seven passes defended in 2024. He has the college experience that will hopefully translate to the NFL.

Positives

  • Eyes in the backfield and reads the play.
  • Consistently looks to bat down passes.
  • Able to line up anywhere along the line.
  • Ideal body type for interior defensive line.

Negatives

  • Gets caught with pad level too high.
  • Will need to work on finishing plays when in position.
  • Can look stiff, especially at the snap.
  • Ineffective pass rush moves.

Draft Projection

Alfred Collins is a projected second-round pick in this year’s draft. He could be in play for Buffalo in the second round. I have Collins graded as a late second-round/early third-round pick. He has the size you want but doesn’t pop on tape. He will need to become more consistent with his pad level and finishing plays at the NFL level.

The Bills could look to bring in Collins with his ability to line up across the line. This would allow Sean McDermott and Bobby Babich to use him in a plethora of ways. While I wouldn’t love this pick in the first round, Collins has traits that are needed by the Bills.
