NFL Draft top-30 visitor tracker: LB Chad Muma reportedly latest to visit Bills
Each NFL team is allowed 30 pre-draft visits from prospects of their choice. I’ll do my best to keep you updated of reports of players visiting the Bills prior to the 2022 NFL Draft on April 28. This list will be updated as more visits are announced.
Positions of players who have visited: 3 running backs, 3 offensive lineman, 2 safeties, 3 tight end, 1 wide receiver, 1 cornerback, 1 linebacker.
Here’s a look at players who have been noted as visiting with the Bills so far:
Wyoming LB Chad Muma
Muma, a converted safety, has the skills to do it all at the linebacker position. He excels in nickel packages and pass coverage, using his ability to cover and track down the opposition in space. Unlike a lot of converted safeties, Muma has a great ability to stop the run. He can stand opponents up in the gap and has the strength to play in congested areas. Muma has the ability to play all three linebacker spots with the right coaching.
He’s 6’2 ¾” and 239 pounds and ran a 4 /63 40-yard dash. He’s a two-year starter and was first-team All-Mountain West in both 2020 and 2021.
In 13 games in 2021, he recorded 142 tackles (8 for loss), 1.5 sacks and 3 INT. Muma is a projected second-round pick.
Texas A&M TE Jalen Wydermyer
Wydermeyer offers a plethora of traits at the tight end position, yet he may not be a polished pro. He can play three downs and is best at intermediate or vertical routes downfield. At 6’3 7/8” and 255 pounds, Wydermyer has a good frame and lanky arms, which he uses to make difficult grabs. He’s not very quick, which is why he excels on routes downfield and not short, quick routes. However he’s still good at running after the catch due to his strength, balance and size, so he can be useful in the short game.
In 12 games in 2021, he had 40 catches for 515 yards and 4 TDs. He has a fifth-round grade.
Virginia Tech TE James Mitchell
Mitchell is coming off of an injury-ridden junior season at VT, but he definitely has a chance to make an impact in the NFL. He’s a talented tight end with plenty of upside. At 6’4” and 249 pounds, he has good size and length to be a consistent threat in the NFL, and has the ball skills to come down with contested catches. He also has the experience of blocking, but could use some guidance in that area. He’s also a team captain who has special teams experience.
In 2020, Mitchell has 26 catches for 435 yards and 4 TDs. He also has five rushing TDs in his short career.
Georgia S Lewis Cine
Cine has qualities that the Bills like in the secondary – anticipation and reaction to the ball when it’s in the air, and good reaction to the run game and physicality. Cine is 6’2” and 199 lbs.
In 15 games for Georgia in 2021, he totaled 73 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 INT, and 9 passes defensed. He’s a two-year starter with good size and production. He fills run lanes with his physical frame and plays well in coverage. He can play man-to-man but excels in playing off of opponents and using this time to read and react to the ball.
Some downsides are his lack in changing directions to match quick receivers, and he’s a high tackler who can give up yards by not wrapping up low.
With his skills and physicality, he’s currently graded as a high-level backup with the potential to be a starter. Third-round projection.
Maryland S Nick Cross
Cross is a down-hill, attacking safety. At 6’ and 212 lbs, he’s quick to throw himself in the ring in the run game with no regard for himself – an excellent tackler who’s a straight-line player with explosiveness.
In 12 games in 2021 for Maryland, he recorded 66 tackles, 3.5 TFL, 3 sacks, 3 INT, 2 PD, and 2 FF. He was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
While he’s a playmaker that can fly around the field, he does lack in coverage at times. Although he has good ball skills, he battles times of poor eye discipline and can get sucked into play action. He can be slow laterally and struggles in man coverage.
Cross is graded as a high-level backup with starting potential. Third-round projection.
Coastal Carolina TE Isaiah Likely
Likely stands at 6’4”, 245 pounds and is a terrific athlete for the tight end position. He’s a decent route runner, and has the speed to separate from defenders – before and after the catch. He has a great set of hands and can make contested catches.
The downside to Likely’s game is blocking, as he lacks the length and size for the position. His route-running could use some polishing as well.
In 2021 with Coastal Carolina, he recorded 59 catches for 912 yards (15.5 AVG) and 12 TDs in just 13 games.
Likely will have special teams value right off the bat, and has the potential to be a role-playing receiving tight end in the future. Projected as a fourth-round pick.
Georgia RB James Cook
Cook is a 5’11”, 199-lb threat out of the backfield as a playmaker. The younger brother of Vikings’ Dalvin Cook, he’s a good overall athlete but flashes when being targeted in the passing game out of the backfield. He can take any play the distance on a screen. He’s a good route runner and had many designed pass plays for him at Georgia. His downsides are a slight lack of vision, as he looks to bounce runs often, and his below-average size limits his usage between the tackles.
In 15 games last year, Cook had 113 carries for 728 yards (6.4 AVG), and 7 rushing TDs. Through the air, he had 27 catches for 284 yards and 4 TDs. A projected fourth-round pick.
Texas A&M RB Isaiah Spiller
Spiller, at 6’0” and 217 lbs, is a powerful runner who likes to get north and south. He has vision when attacking the hole and has the explosiveness to jump cut through it. He can come in and immediately be an NFL team’s three-down back. Although he’s not known as an elusive pass cather he is still able to win as a receiver out of the backfield.
The downside is he doesn’t have the burner speed to separate on long runs, and his long legs make it hard to get going again after make a couple cuts.
Spiller has been compared to Bengals’ Joe Mixon. In 12 games in 2021, Spiller had 179 carries for 1,011 yards and 6 TDs. He recorded 25 catches for 189 yards and 1 TD as a receiving threat. Projected to be drafted in the second round.
Ohio State OT Nicholas Petit-Frere
Left tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere is projected to be a future starter at left tackle in the NFL. His size, length and fluidity make him a natural at left tackle (6’5”, 316 lbs). He’s a scheme-flexible player who is capable of handling different offenses. He can run block, move laterally for cut offs, and protect in deep passing sets – as Ohio State had a lot of play action deep drops.
He currently has a third-round value.
Clemson CB Andrew Booth Jr.
Booth Jr. stands at 6’ ¼” and 194 pounds. He’s a lanky athlete who has the ability to run many techniques and coverages. He has above-average speed, and contains ball skills that can defend the short pass, long pass, and has the ability to play through the ball. He has good press-man skills but is more comfortable when he sees things develop in front of him. He can come in a be a day-one starter in the NFL due to his athleticism, length and ability to play the ball.
In 11 games in 2021, Booth Jr. had 37 tackles, 1 INt and 5 pass breakups. He’s projected as a late first-round to second-round pick.
UCLA OL Sean Rhyan
Sean Rhyan was a three-year starter at UCLA, having 31 starts at left tackle. Standing at 6’4” 321 lbs, Rhyan has a big body and possesses great power at the tackle position, which he displayed in Chip Kelly’s rushing offense. He loves down blocking and has the size to hold blocks and be a big presence in a double team.
Where he lacks is his athleticism and movement, as he struggles with quick defenders. This could be a problem at the next level with edge rushers perfecting their moves. He also has below average length.
He could be a big body who makes the switch to guard at the next level. Rhyan would be a good depth piece with a potential of starting and filling in as needed down the line. He’s projected as a fifth-round pick.
Alabama WR John Metchie III
Metchie III is an all-around solid WR prospect, while lacking any true great individual trait. He’s a good route runner who can play at all depth levels while also being capable of playing inside and outside. He has a good release and excels at finding open spots against zone coverage. He has the capability of being a consistent option in an offense without being a physical force in any way. He’s a little undersized at 5’11” 187 lbs but has the ability to make the contested catch.
In 13 games in 2021, Metchie III had 96 catches for 1,142 yards and 8 TDs. He 2021 second-team All SEC. He tore his ACL during the SEC Championship game. He could be a day-one contributor depending on his injury recovery. He’s projected as a third-round pick.
Memphis OL Dylan Parham
Parham, a four-year starter at Memphis, has experience at right tackle and both guard spots. He’s a quicker, smaller lineman who can block in space, pulling and connecting with targets. He is a solid run blocker with the fight to finish blocks in the trenches. He started 12 games at right guard in 2021 and was a First-Team All-AAC selection.
Due to a lack of length he can get pressed easier than others. Despite a disadvantage with size, he shows good patience and lateral movement while pass blocking.
His limited frame could mean a move to center long term, especially with the way he can pull and move in space athletically. He’s projected as a third-round pick.
Iowa St RB Breece Hall
Hall is ready to be three-down starter in the NFL due to his pro-ready size and a plethora of abilities. He’s a bigger back but also has a finesse to him. He has good tempo and vision which allows him to use his athletic abilities and angles where he can use his advantage. He forces a lot of missed arm tackles and while he doesn’t have the burner speed, he is surely fast enough to create large gains of offense.
He also is a gifted receiver with great hands and run after the catch ability. Where he could improve is his pass protection.
In 12 games in 2021, Hall had 253 carries for 1,472 rushing yards and 20 TDs. He added 36 catches for 302 yards and 3 TDs through the air. He was both a first-team All-American and the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year in each of the 2020 and 2021 seasons. He’s a projected late first-round to second-round pick.
