Many players stepped up on the defensive side of the ball on Sunday for the Bills, but it was nickel corner Taron Johnson who stepped up in a big-time situation by coming down with the game-sealing interception on Patrick Mahomes.

The Bills went into Kansas City with one plan in mind: get revenge on the Chiefs. The Bills played a very well-rounded game on defense and kept the team alive in the first half until the offense got going. And, once the offense found their rhythm and took the lead, Johnson was the one who made sure it stayed that way.

Mahomes was forced into throwing the interception due to a timely call by defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier. Von Miller was able to rush through his double team, forcing
Mahomes to run directly at a spying Matt Milano. Milano’s presence made Mahomes attempt a sidearm, off-balance throw into traffic. And, lurking in his zone and ready to put the game away was Johnson. He jumped the route on Skyy Moore and ultimately helped the Bills move to 5-1 on the season.

Johnson played well all game long, as he had 4 solo tackles, 6 total tackles and one pass defensed. Johnson is no stranger to making big plays, though. He made the clutch pick against the Baltimore Ravens in 2020 in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, which helped the Bills seal that victory as well:

Taron Johnson was drafted by the Bills back in 2018. Johnson has 297 total tackles, 6 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 25 passes defended, and 4 interceptions in his career.

Johnson is a key piece to the Bills defense as his tackling ability helps them play nickel defense more than anyone else in the league. His importance to the Bills was on display yet again with another monumental interception. The Bills defense as a whole played very well to hold the Chiefs to only 20 points and they have allowed only 81 total points this season, which is ranked first in the NFL.
