The Buffalo Bills defeated the Dallas Cowboys in astonishing fashion. The Bills won 31-10 to move to a record of 8-6 on the season and keep their playoff hopes alive. James Cook and the Bills run game was the biggest bright spot on Sunday which was very evident in their win. The Bills will look to repeat their great performance next weekend, on Saturday, against the Las Angeles Chargers.
The Good
Josh Allen
After the game Josh Allen said, “I felt like the kid that didn’t do anything in the class project but still got an A.” Josh Allen felt like he didn’t do much but he did exactly what he needed to do to help the Bills get the win. Allen only had 15 pass attempts all game which is extremely unlike the Bills high flying offense, nonetheless Allen completed 7 of those 15 attempts for a total of 94 yards and a passing touchdown.
Josh Allen was a true field general all game, playing smart methodical football when the ball was in his hands, or making the right adjustments pre-snap. Allen took the ball himself 8 times for 24 rushing yards and got himself a touchdown. Allen did more than enough to help the Bills secure the win and move to 8-6.
James Cook and The Offensive Line
Another Josh Allen quote for you, “Let James Cook.” James Cook was on fire all night long, whether that be on the ground or through the air, Cook was the man. Cook had 25 carries for 179 yards and a rushing touchdown, meanwhile through the air Cook had 2 receptions for 42 yards and a receiving touchdown.
While James Cook was indeed Cooking, you can’t talk about a great rushing performance without talking about the offensive line he has in front of him. The Bills offensive line played outstanding against the Cowboys and they’ve really seemed to come together and find their way. The offensive line allowed only 1 sack and 2 tackles for loss on 68 total snaps.
Sean McDermott
Head coach/defensive coordinator, Sean McDermott has put all the media talk behind him and has really buckled down for this team. The locker room seems to be all in on McDermott once again and that’s a big reason they’re having the success they do.
Defensively, McDermott called one of his best games of the year, only allowing the Cowboys defense to 10 points. Safety Taylor Rapp led the Bills in terms of tackles with a total of 8, along with having a tackle for loss. The Bills sacked Dak Prescott 3 times on Sunday, those players getting in there being LB Tyrel Dodson, DE Greg Rousseau, DT Jordan Phillips and DE Leonard Floyd.
Joe Brady
Joe Brady has been a fan favorite since filling in for Ken Dorsey and having the success he’s had. Brady called a great game today, finding what was working and sticking with it, instead of trying to force the ball game to be won or lost through Josh Allen’s hands.
Brady was smart with his play calling and seemed to be on the same page with Josh Allen all game long.
Turnover Battle
One thing that hurts the Bills the most in many of their games is the loss in the turnover battle. The Bills played a very clean game of football despite the rain and won the turnover battle. Bills defense back Christian Benard got himself an interception later in the game which furthered the Bills chances of winning.
Time Of Possession
Another battle that is huge in the game of football is who wins the time of possession. The Bills led the Cowboys in terms of time of possession with 35:05 and the Cowboys with 24:55.
The Bad
Receiving Corps
The Bills receiving corps had a bad game. The Bills were very fortunate that the run game was working because the receiving corps was dropping passes left and right. Rookie tight end Dalton Kincaid 2 targets and dropped both of them.
Receiver Stefon Diggs led the Bills in receiving with 4 receptions for 48 yards, along with a very nice one handed catch. Besides Diggs, the receiving corps was very lackluster.
