Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott announced that All-Pro cornerback Tre’Davious White has been designated to return off the PUP list today and has returned to practice in a red, non-contact jersey. The Bills will now have 21 days to put him on the 53-man active roster. McDermott also stated that White will not be active this Sunday against the Chiefs but he is getting close.

White, who has two Pro Bowls and a first-team All-Pro under his belt, will be returning to a Bills secondary that has been beleaguered by injuries early on this season. Yet, the Bills still rank in the top five in most passing defense categories.

Even with the high defensive rankings, the Bills have lacked a true No. 1 cornerback so far this year. The four corners (which includes two rookies) who have received the most playing time have second-tier Pro Football Focus rankings at the position:

2022 Bills cornerbacks PFF rankings:
Dane Jackson: T-56th of 104
Kaiir Elam: T-56th of 104
Taron Johnson: 59th of 104
Christian Benford: 65th of 104

White’s teammates (and Bills fans everywhere) were ecstatic for his return to the practice field today:

Tre White suffered a season-ending ACL injury last season on Thanksgiving night versus the Saints. He missed the final 8 games (including playoffs) of the 2021 season, and so far, he has missed the first 5 games of the 2022 season.

White will not suit up against Kansas City this Sunday and the Bills have a bye the week after, so the earliest he’d play would be the primetime game on October 30th versus the Packers. The latest White could return to the active roster would be November 2, meaning he’d be active for the Week 9 game at the New York Jets.
