The Buffalo Bills began the 2024 NFL draft with the 28th overall pick and needs at multiple positions. Brandon Beane and the Bills front office decided to steer clear of any first round draft prospects and trade back into the second round.
Trade #1 (Bills-Chiefs)
The Bills sat tight at the 28th overall pick in the first round when they ultimately decided to trade with the Kansas City Chiefs who held the 32nd pick.
The trade with the Chiefs consisted of the Bills receiving the Chiefs 32nd overall pick, the Chiefs third round pick (#95), and the Chiefs seventh round pick (#221.) The Bills had to give up their 28th overall pick, a fourth round pick (#133), and a seventh round pick (#248.)
With the 28th pick the Chiefs selected Texas WR Xavier Worthy. Worthy raised his draft stock in the months leading to the NFL draft due to his speedy 4.21 40-yard dash time. Worthy finished his 2024 college football season with 75 receptions for 1,014 yards, and 5 touchdowns.
The Bills did not select a player with the 32nd pick and decided to trade back once more, moving into the second round.
Trade #2 (Bills-Panthers)
The Bills once again traded their first round pick, this time it took them out of the first round and put them at the tip of round two, pick 33.
The trade with the Panthers consisted of the Bills receiving the Panthers second round pick (#33) and the Panthers fifth round pick (#141.) The Bills had to five up the 32nd overall pick and a sixth round pick (#200.)
With the 32nd pick the Panthers selected South Carolina WR Xavier Legette. Legette stands at 6’ 3” and weighs in at 225 pounds. Legette is a receiver many Bills fans wanted due to his size and speed combination but Brandon Beane and the Bills front office sided against choosing him.
The Bills now hold the 33rd overall pick and sit with a lot of control at the top of the second round. Brandon Beane said in his post-first round press conference that general managers are already calling up for the 33rd pick, time will tell what Beane and the Bills want to do with that pick.
