The Buffalo Bills fell to the Texans in Houston in heartbreaking fashion in Week 5, losing by a score of 23 to 20.

The Bills are now 3-2 on the season heading into Week 6 where they will take on the New York Jets in New Jersey on Monday Night Football.

The good

DeWayne Carter

Rookie defensive tackle DeWayne Carter had himself a great game in place of injured defensive tackle Ed Oliver. Carter started the game with a great tackle by sniffing out a screen pass and making a tackle for loss. Carter was disruptive in his first extended action. He finished the game with three total tackles, two tackles for loss, and a quarterback hit.

Terrel Bernard

Terrel Bernard was a big part of the Bills’ efforts. Bernard was very much missed the week prior, and this week he showed why the Bills need him.

Terrel Bernard finished the game with five total tackles, one pass defended, and one interception. Bernard intercepted second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud in the fourth quarter down 20-17.

The bad

Coaching

With the game tied at 20 and 32 seconds left in the game, the Bills found themselves on their own three-yard line following a great punt by the Texans. The Bills offense played it aggressive and called three pass plays in a row: a Keon Coleman offensive pass interference, an incomplete ball thrown to Mack Hollins, and then an incompletion to Curtis Samuel.

Joe Brady’s aggressiveness led to the Bills having to punt it to the Texans, who had all three timeouts. This ultimately led to the Texans kicking a game-winning field goal.

Offense

The Bills offense had a rough time moving the ball all game long. Quarterback Josh Allen had a bad game finishing 9/30 for 131 passing yards and one passing touchdown. Coleman led the Bills in receiving yards on only one catch that went for a 49-yard touchdown.

Mack Hollins

Wide receiver Mack Hollins had six total targets and only caught two of them for 27 yards. Hollins was thrown to a lot but couldn’t get it going at all.

Cole Bishop

Rookie safety Cole Bishop had himself a bad game in coverage. He let up a huge 67-yard Nico Collins touchdown.

Defense

The Bills defensive efforts were not enough to get the job done. Buffalo’s defense let up 331 passing yards from quarterback C.J. Stroud. They also let up 94 rushing yards. Stefon Diggs had 82 total yards in the game.
