Bills vs Colts: Good and bad from Week 10 win
The Buffalo Bills took down the Indianapolis Colts in a 30-20 victory in Week 10.
Cornerback Taron Johnson and the Bills defense led the way for Buffalo and ultimately sparked their victory. Josh Allen and the Bills offense were slow out of the gate, like they have been most of the season, yet put up 23 against Indianapolis’ defense.
The Bills are now 8-2 on the season and have a hefty lead in the AFC East with the closest team being the 3-6 Miami Dolphins.
The good
James Cook
Running back James Cook was one of the bright spots in the Bills offensive attack against the Colts defense. Cook had 80 yards on 19 carries with a touchdown tacked on top. Cook’s rushing touchdown late in the fourth quarter made it a 30-13 Buffalo lead. Cook was running hard all game long and was a strong suit in Buffalo’s offense.
Taron Johnson
Cornerback Taron Johnson started the game off hot for the Buffalo defense. Johnson stepped in front of a Joe Flacco throw and intercepted it, he then returned it for a 23-yard pick six. Johnson had three total tackles on the day, one sack, two passes defensed, one interception, and one touchdown. Johnson was flying around in the win. He became the first Bills player in history to ever record an interception returned for a touchdown and a sack in the same game. His performance earned him AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Greg Rousseau
Defensive end Greg Rousseau had another great performance in Week 10. Rousseau had four total tackles and a sack. Rousseau’s defensive performance was a large help in the Bills defeating the Colts.
Rousseau had a huge strip sack on quarterback Joe Flacco which was recovered by Damar Hamlin and put the Bills on the 50-yard line late in the third quarter up 20-13.
Tyler Bass
Kicker Tyler Bass has been largely criticized for his lack of production, but he is really starting to get going as of late. Bass had a perfect day in Indianapolis hitting on all his field goals and extra points. Bass finished the game 3/3 on field goal tries as well as 3/3 on his extra point attempts.
Tyler Bass’ longest field goal on the day was a 47-yarder. Bass finished with 12 total points for the Bills and was a huge help in Buffalo’s victory.
The bad
Josh Allen
Quarterback Josh Allen had a shaky day against Indianapolis. Allen had some positives in the Bills victory but had more negatives which is why he is on the list of “bad.” Allen finished the game 22/37 for 280 passing yards yet did not throw a passing touchdown. On the ground Allen took it himself eight times for 50 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Josh Allen threw two bad picks which kept the Colts in the game. First, Allen threw an interception to EJ Speed in the second quarter with nine minutes left. Later in the game, with five minutes left in the third quarter, Allen threw another interception to Kenny Moore.
Allen has now thrown an interception in each of his last three games, and he just threw two in one game. Allen will have to clean up the interceptions going forward, and he will have to get back on the track he was on at the beginning of the season.
Run defense
The Bills defense has struggled against big running backs in the past, most recently, the Baltimore Ravens and Derrick Henry ran all over this Bills defense. This week, Jonathan Taylor had a good game against the Bills run defense, finishing with 114 yards on 21 carries. The Bills inability to make tackles in space is what hurts the defense and keeps opposing offenses in the game. The Bills will look to clean this up going forward, as next week they take on the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs.
