Dawson Knox honors brother after game-winning touchdown

Tight end Dawson Knox finished Sunday’s game against the Chiefs with three receptions for 37 yards, including a touchdown which put the Bills up 24-20 with 1:04 left in the game.

After scoring the go-ahead touchdown, Knox was seen looking upward towards the sky, signaling that his clutch touchdown grab was dedicated to his younger brother, Luke.

As I’m sure most of us know, Knox’s younger brother, Luke Knox, passed away about two months ago before the start of the NFL season. Luke played football with his older brother Dawson at Ole Miss before transferring to FIU this offseason. He was 22 years old.

We know that Knox has been battling with injuries on the field and playing through some stuff physically, and of course personally, so for him to be the one to put the Bills ahead just made the moment that much more special.

It wasn’t just that touchdown catch, however, he also made another incredible catch late in the game along the sideline and he took a big hit in the process. He was able to hold on and move the chains for the Bills. He made a few timely catches and played through injury to help the Bills on the field, but it’s not just Knox’s ability to catch and block that makes him a big part of the team.

When I went to training camp earlier this year, Dawson was signing autographs along the railing at St. John Fisher with a ton of people shouting his name, begging for an autograph. One thing I noticed about Knox was that every single thing he signed, he looked the person or child directly in the eye and always said “here you go” or “my pleasure”. He made every signature personal and meaningful. I even had a quick conversation with him. I asked him about this golf course that is around where I live because I know he plays a lot. He was a super nice and genuine guy.

It’s that type of spirit which makes Knox a fan favorite and a favorite in the locker room. And, it was the locker room that erupted when coach Sean McDermott presented him with a game ball after the game.

I hope we see Knox more involved in this offense down the stretch as he continues to get healthier and utilized more in Ken Dorsey’s offense. It is yet another element that defenses will have to prepare to defend.

It was an amazing game as the Bills came out on top in Kansas City, 24-20, but seeing Dawson get that game-winning touchdown and look to the sky right after… it made the moment special and it was the type of thing that brings a team together. I love this team, and their chemistry and love for each other is unlike any other team in the league.
