In the Buffalo Bills’ 63-year history, the tight end crop has been mediocre at best. Names like Pete Metzelaars, Reuben Gant, Jay Riemersma and Keith McKeller strike a chord with Bills fans, but they never raised an eyebrow on a national scale.

Dawson Knox, though, has become a household name amongst football fans across the country. Not only has he been clutch in some crucial games for the Bills, Knox has also put up solid career statistics in his short career.

In only four seasons, including playoffs, Dawson Knox is among the top five Bills in all major tight end receiving categories, trailing Pete Metzelaars (who played with the Bills for 10 seasons), Jay Riemersma (6 seasons), Scott Chandler (5 seasons) and Reuben Gant (7 seasons).

Remarkably, Knox’s production has been good despite having to battle for targets with Stefon Diggs, Gabriel Davis, Cole Beasley, John Brown, Isaiah McKenzie and others.

As it stands now, including the playoffs, Dawson Knox ranks first among Bills tight ends in average receiving yards per season, 2nd in average receptions per season and first in average touchdowns per season.

And if he keeps up his current production through the end of his contract in 2026, he’ll hold all the main Bills receiving records in only 8 seasons.

Even more important than career statistics is performance when it matters and no Bills tight in matches the clutch play of Dawson Knox.

In the playoffs, the most important time of the season, Dawson Knox is the Bills tight end leader in the most significant stats in half the games as his competitors.

Here are the Bills leading career Tight End numbers in the playoffs:

Games Rec Yards TD’s
Dawson Knox 8 26 262 5
Keith McKeller 15 27 246 0
Pete Metzelaars 16 22 189 1
Ernie Warlick 3 8 109 1

Dawson Knox has also come up big in some big-time regular season games. Remember the 2022 game in Arrowhead, when Knox caught a touchdown pass from Josh Allen on the final drive to put the Bills up? He also went off against the Patriots in the 2021 playoff game with 89 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns.

Josh Allen and Dawson Knox have become a reliant connection for the Bills offense. We really saw this come to fruition beginning in the 2021 season and should continue if Knox stays healthy. His reliable play has yielded great stats. Couple this with his excellent play when it matters, and I think it is safe to say that Dawson Knox is the greatest of all Buffalo Bills tight ends.
