College Performance

Wide Receiver Jahan Dotson played four years of college ball at Penn State for the Nittany Lions. Dotson was Penn State’s number one receiver and lined up outside, inside at the slot position, and even in the back field in wildcat formations. He stands at 5’11” and weighs 178 pounds.

Dotson played in 12 games last season, racking up 91 receptions for 1,182 yards and 12 touchdowns. At the NFL combine, Dotson ran a 4.43 40-yard dash.

Some upsides to Dotson’s game are his great body control, quickness, and his good positioning when the ball is in the air. The only downsides to Dotson’s game are his inability to break tackles in the open field, and he has a smaller frame, so it will be easier for corners to knock him off the line in press coverage. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. has Dotson going to Buffalo at Number 25 in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Here’s two of Dotson’s highlight reel plays in 2020 against Ohio State’s Shaun Wade (drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2021) in a game where he had 8 receptions for 144 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The Bills’ Situation

The Bills have the 25th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and could use a wide receiver like Dotson. Behind Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis, they don’t have muych depth for receivers who can line up out wide. The Bills wide receiver room consists of Diggs, Davis, Jamison Crowder (slot receiver), Isiah McKenzie (slot receiver), Jake Kumerow, Isiah Hodgins (practice squad), and Tanner Gentry (practice squad).

Dotson can be a bright young star in the Bills’ offense by bringing in great speed and sure hands, which would pair great with a cannon of an arm like Josh Allen.

What could Dotson bring?

Dotson brings a lot of versatility to this offense. Dotson is fast and could easily be implemented on jet sweeps or drag routes in the slot if need be. He maximizes his length on throws away from his body and in a crowd of defenders. Whichever team drafts Dotson will get a guy that can do it all at the wide receiver position and can make opposing defenses pay if they don’t account for him.
