Coming into Monday Night’s Week 1 matchup with the NY Jets, the Buffalo Bills have gone 3-1 in opening weekend games that saw Josh Allen start.

Josh Allen and the Bills have performed at different levels in each of these Week 1 matchups, hitting their peak last season versus the Rams.

Here’s a look at each Bills season opener with #17 behind center.

2019 Week 1 Bills 17 @ Jets 16

Josh Allen was still raw in 2019 and it showed in the first three quarters of this week 1 game against the Jets.

Allen threw a 17-yard pick-6 to CJ Mosley in the first quarter and the Bills were shut out until a 3rdquarter 43-yard field goal by Stephen Hauschka.

However, in the 4th quarter, Josh Allen would rush for a 3-yard touchdown and throw a 38-yard touchdown pass to new weapon, John Brown, with three minutes remaining in the game to give the Bills the lead 17-16.

2020 Week 1 Jets 17 @ Bills 27

Josh Allen come to form during the 2020 season and it all started opening weekend versus the Jets.

The Bills would start out hot, going up 21-0 in the first half, which included Josh Allen touchdown passes to Zach Moss and John Brown.  Two second half Tyler Bass field goals would complete the Bills opening day route over the Jets.

2021 Week 1 Steelers 23 @ Bills 16

Coming off an AFC Championship appearance, the Bills were primed to make another deep playoff run and perhaps overlooked a Steelers team that would go on to a 9-7-1 record.

Josh Allen had a decent stat line but was largely ineffective.

After a 10-0 first half lead, the Steelers scored 20 unanswered points, including a blocked punt returned for a touchdown.  A couple late Tyler Bass field goals brought the Bills to within seven points, but it wouldn’t be enough.

2022 Week 1 Bills 31 @ Rams 10

Heading into the 2022 season the Bills were being picked Super Bowl favorites by a majority of the sports world. Afterall, Josh Allen had gone toe-to-two with Patrick Mahomes in the previous AFC Divisional Round, which saw the dreaded “13 Seconds” game versus the Chiefs.

The Bills were picked to play the opening Thursday night game versus the defending champion, LA Rams and they put on a show in front of a national audience.

The game got off to a slow start, with a 10-10 halftime score.  Josh Allen would throw two interceptions in the first half along with a James Cook fumble.

The second half, though, was sheer Bills domination as Josh Allen threw for two touchdowns and ran for one more.
