College Performance

Running back Breece Hall of the Iowa State Cyclones declared for the 2022 NFL Draft as a junior. Hall is 6’1” and weighs in at 220 pounds. He has been a three-down back in college and has great burst out of the backfield and great ball-carrying vision.

Hall played 12 games in the 2021 college football season as the starter for the Cyclones and put up 1,472 rushing yards on 253 attempts, while putting up 20 rushing touchdowns.  He also added 36 catches for 306 receiving yards.

Hall is very big for a running back, especially compared to the Bills’ current running back room, which contains Devin Singletary (5’7”) and Zack Moss (5’9”). He has a very pro-ready frame at his size. Hall, while not afraid to get down in the trenches and push forward into the line, with his power also comes speed and elusiveness.

Here’s a 75-yard rushing touchdown against TCU in the 2020 college football season:

The Bills’ Situation

The Buffalo Bills have the 25th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and running back might not be too far of a stretch. The Bills have not been very dependent on their running game since Josh Allen has been drafted and they’ve become a pass-first, high-powered offense. They became a good rushing team at the end of the season and into the playoffs, but bringing in a player like Hall can change the whole atmosphere in the running game.

The Bills could easily take Breece Hall if he is the best available and there are no wide receivers or cornerbacks with high value on the board. Running back is not an urgent need for the Buffalo Bills, but they haven’t had a proven playmaker back there for much of Allen’s career.

Breece Hall Upsides

Breece Hall has the size of a starting running back in the NFL and could start right away on all three downs for a team that needs help in the running game. He has the speed to be an RB one and is very physical.

Breece Hall Downsides

Hall sometimes gets greedy as a runner – he’ll try to run backwards and flip the field, sometimes making a two-yard loss a five-yard loss. He’ll have to work on being more of a north and south runner, especially at the next level with quicker defenders.
