Top 10 Draft Prospects to Watch for the Buffalo Bills
With the 2023 NFL regular season wrapped up and the Kansas City Chiefs winning it all once again, the NFL Draft order is officially set. The Buffalo Bills have the 28th pick in the draft this year, as many believe that they will be looking to improve at many different positions with the large amount of free agents this coming off-season.
Brian Thomas Jr. | WR | LSU
Starting off this list we’re looking at LSU’s star wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. who finished his 23’ season with 68 receptions for 1,177 yards and 17 touchdowns. Thomas stands at 6’ 4” and weighs 205 lbs, his size could be utilized well if selected by the Bills.
Brian Thomas is very fluid in everything that he does and has the added advantage of being lengthy which helps him secure the ball.
Thomas, quite literally, could be a very big part in the Bills receiving core. He can bring size and agility to the Bills receiving room that is lacking in that area.
Tyler Nubin | S | Minnesota
Tyler Nubin has been a big name in this year’s draft when it comes to the safety position and especially amongst Bills Mafia. Nubin played a total of five seasons at Minnesota where he showed his great instincts at the safety position.
With Bills’ star safety Micah Hyde leaving for free agency, the Bills have a glaring need next to their other star safety Jordan Poyer that needs to be filled. Nubin could be the man for the job, he would fit in very nicely at the free safety position in Hyde’s absences.
Nubin finished his senior season at Minnesota with 53 total tackles, 4 passes defended, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, and 5 interceptions.
Adonai Mitchell | WR | Texas
Adonai Mitchell is the second receiver on this list but is in the argument to be first. Like Brian Thomas, Mitchell has a large frame, standing at 6’ 4” and weighing 196 lbs. Mitchell played two seasons with Georgia until transferring to the Texas Longhorns where he had his best season. At Texas, Mitchell finished with 55 receptions for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The Bills have a piece missing with Gabe Davis leaving for the free agent market but Mitchell can be the guy to fit into the Bills offense this coming season and stretch the field for the Buffalo Bills.
Adonai Mitchell is lengthy with great athleticism. Mitchell is explosive and has long-strides due to his size which gives smaller defensive backs a major problem in coverage.
Ladd McConkey | WR | Georgia
Ladd McConkey was one of the best receivers to watch at this year’s Senior Bowl. McConkey demonstrated his elite route running and his great shiftiness.
Ladd McConkey is 6’ 0” and weighs 185 lbs, out of Georgia. McConkey was mainly the slot receiver at Georgia but was truly effective wherever he was placed on the field. He shows excellent short-area quickness and is more than capable of creating separation early.
McConkey played three seasons at Georgia where he had 119 total receptions for 1,687 yards and 14 receiving touchdowns. While the Bills have Khalil Shakir who had a good 2023 season in the slot, McConkey wouldn’t be a bad selection if the opportunity presents itself.
Kamren Kinchens | S | Miami
Kamren Kinchens is the second and final safety on this list. Kinchens, out of the University of Miami, is a physical athlete at the strong safety position. Kinchens is 5’ 11” and weighs 206 lbs, he uses his solid athletic build to cover tight ends well if need be and to stay sturdy.
Kinchens played three seasons with Miami where he recorded 162 total tackles, 1 sack, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumbles recovered, 11 interceptions, 15 passes defended, and 2 touchdowns. Kinchens would be a great physical addition to the Bills secondary.
Kamren Kinchens has fluid movement, great coverage skills, quick feet, and a gifted ability at reading opposing offenses.
Xavier Legette | WR | South Carolina
Xavier Legette is another big receiver on this list, standing at 6’ 1” and weighing 223 lbs.
Legette is a reliable receiver with a great ability to make difficult catches in traffic. Legette also had great speed to pair with his size and is capable of outrunning defensive backs.
Legette played five seasons with South Carolina and in his 23’ season he finished with 71 receptions for 1,255 yards and 7 touchdowns. His ability to not only be flexible, but agile as well at his size is something hard to pass up if he’s the best available on the board for the Buffalo Bills.
Jackson Powers-Johnson | C | Oregon
The only offensive lineman on this list comes out of Oregon. Center Jackson Powers-Johnson stands at 6’ 3” and weighs 334 lbs. Bills center Mitch Morse is in the final year of his contract which could warrant the Bills to look into younger options at the position.
Powers-Johnson has a big broad frame and has an excellent athletic ability. Powers-Johnson shows his strong hands upon delivery onto defenders and fluid movements on screens and when pulling.
Edgerrin Cooper | LB | Texas A&M
While the Bills seemed to have figured their linebacker situation out since the loss of MLB Tremaine Edmunds last year, there’s still always room to improve and a guy like Edgerrin Cooper can excel the Bills linebacking core.
Edgerrin Cooper stands at 6’ 2” and weighs 227 lbs which gives him great length and great WILL linebacker size. Cooper played four seasons with Texas A&M where he finished his 2023 season with 83 total tackles, 2 passes defended, 8 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.
T’Vondre Sweat | DT | Texas
T’Vondre Sweat is a monster at the defensive tackle position and he showed that during the Senior Bowl. Sweat stands at 6’ 4” and weighs 362 lbs and used his size to his advantage in the 3-Tech at Texas.
Sweat is a great run defender and his huge frame makes it almost impossible to run against. He shows good release off the snap and can explode into the backfield. In Sweat’s final season at Texas he had 45 total tackles, 5 passes defended, and 2 sacks
Brenden Rice | WR | USC
Last on the list is another big receiver, Brenden Rice out of USC. Rice had one of the best Senior Bowl performances out of the other guys in his class.
Rice stands at 6’ 2” and weighs 212 lbs. Rice played two seasons with Colorado and two seasons with USC in which he finished with 111 receptions for 1,821 yards and 21 touchdowns over his four college seasons.
Brenden Rice uses his outstanding length to his advantage and has great boundary awareness and body control. Rice is the son of NFL legend Jerry Rice and has all the tangibles to make a legacy of his own.
