Bills vs Panthers: Stock up/down from preseason Week 1 

The Buffalo Bills defeated the Carolina Panthers in their first preseason game Saturday, 29-14. 

Below is the stock up/down from Buffalo’s win over Carolina: 

Stock up 

Josh Allen-DJ Moore Connection 

The Bills starters were on the field for the first two offensive drives of the game and looked polished. Josh Allen connected with multiple receivers on his few snaps, most notably being new addition DJ Moore who caught three passes for 61 yards. Moore’s longest catch went for 32 yards which moved the Bills into the red zone. Allen and Moore’s connection was a small glimpse of what Bills fans hope to see every week from the new duo. 

Jim Leonhard’s defense 

Jim Leonhard had the starters on the field to begin the game and they looked great, forcing two three-and-outs to start. A lot of the disguised coverages from Leonhard’s new 3-4 defense were effective, which forced multiple sacks and tackles for loss. Newly acquired veteran Bradley Chubb and rookie T.J. Parker looked amazing in his scheme, both forcing tackles for loss, with Parker getting his first sack. 

Keon Coleman 

Keon Coleman took a step up in the first preseason action, catching the one and only touchdown pass of the day for the Bills. Coming off another offseason of questions and concerns, Coleman looks to quiet everyone down as the WR3 for Buffalo. 

Second-team Secondary 

Buffalo’s second-team secondary made some big plays and forced multiple stops. Jordan Hancock impressed, finishing with four tackles along with two tackles for loss, while playing fast and physical. Undrafted free agent cornerback Kani Walker also impressed, making the play of the day picking off a screen pass behind the line of scrimmage. 

Deone Walker 

Deone Walker picked up where he left off in his rookie season with momentum, playing physical at the point of attack, and forcing pressure. Walker finished with three tackles along with a sack and a tackle for loss. 

Stock down 

Tyler Bass missed field goal 

Tyler Bass had a solid day, aside from a missed 44-yard field goal. Bass finished three for four on his field goal attempts, his furthest being 46 yards, and made both of his two extra point attempts. 

Backup quarterbacks 

The quarterback play behind Josh Allen has been a question all camp and today showed the drop off. The offense was moving at times with Kyle Allen under center, but still failed to reach the end zone in the second and third quarter, leaving the defense to hold onto the small lead until the fourth. 

Punter competition 

Head coach Joe Brady had hoped he could see some punts today from rookie Tommy Doman Jr. or Mitch Wishnowsky but did not have a chance for one. 

Penalties 

The Bills accumulated nine penalties that resulted in 98 total penalty yards, allowing Carolina four first downs from penalties.
